Athletes of the Month

JAYLA KOSER, Class of '26, is a member of the track and field team. Jayla showed up for track and from day 1 dominated the 100m and 200m in meets. She eventually ran the 400m and in her first race qualified for Mid-Penn’s by over 3 seconds! She improved that time another 3 seconds in her second ever race at Mid-Penn’s and qualified for Districts in the 100m, 200m and 400m! According to Coach Selcher, who is a bit of a Middletown Track and Field historian, Jayla’s 100m time is the 7th best in Middletown history, her 200m time is the 3rd best in Middletown history and only .15 away from first, but her best event might be the 400m! With 3 more years of track ahead of her, she has a bright future in Track and Field!

BRAELAN HUBER, Class of '23, ended up hitting .294 with 3 doubles a triple and a home run for the Middletown baseball team. He also pitched well and was a key part of the team's success and making the playoffs again for the second year in a row. He was also a team captain and an all-around great kid. Huber had a very nice senior season and will be moving on to play at Virginia Wesleyan.

CHRISTINE MILLER, Class of '23, is a three-year varsity starter in softball. Christine lost her freshman year to Covid but has been dominant ever since. Christine has been the Blue Raiders starting pitcher for the last 3 years and has been a league leader in strikeouts. She is in the top 5 in that category this season. Christine has 76 K's, and with a handful of games left will likely be over 100 k's again. Christine is also a league leader in ERA with an average slightly over 3.00. Not only is Christine our leader on the mound she also is one of the Mid-Penn leaders in runs, RBI's, and homeruns. Christine's average so far this season is a stellar .438 average, but most importantly Christine is one of the leaders of this team as a captain. Her leadership, along with co-captains Amiyah Humes and Cadence Lines, is the main reason we are having a successful season and are looking forward to the District Playoffs.

LUKE LEKITES, Class of '24, and KRISH SHAH, Class of '25, capped off a 17-0 season at second doubles tennis. They took their undefeated record into the Mid Penn tournament and brought home the gold medal. The two will be filling big shoes next year as they move into the top spots on the team.

Athletes of the Month

ELIZA ARTELL, Class of ‘26, qualified for Mid Penn’s, earned a Personal Record, and then qualified for Districts.
Eliza finished fifth in the 50m freestyle at the District Swimming Championships.

ELIZABETH RHINE, Class of ’26, also qualified for Mid Penn’s, earned a Personal Record, and qualified for Districts.
Lizzie finished seventh in the 100m Breaststroke at the District Swimming Championships.

CAMERON WEGERT, Class of '23, claimed the PIAA District 3 Boys Bowling Title on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Clearview Lanes, Mount Joy, PA. The Middletown Blue Raider senior rolled a 300 game the last of his 5 games of qualifying to place 3rd and advance to the quarterfinals of the single game elimination bracket finals. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Bryce Kline of Central York 248-245. Cameron then defeated Derek Keller of Hempfield 223-207 in the semifinals, and in the championship match, he defeated the #1 seed Zach Wentzel of Elizabethtown 246-200 to win the gold medal. Wegert's success also earned him a shout-out from WGAL TV8 as their High School Athlete of the Week. Wegert qualified 7th at the Eastern PA Regional Championships in Lancaster, PA and will advance to the PA State Singles Championships to be held Friday, March 17, 2023 in Erie, PA.

SYNCERE MATTHEWS, Class of '26, is a freshman starter this season for the Blue Raiders. Syncere is 3rd on the team in scoring with 131 total points. Syncere has had a handful of games this season where she kept the Blue Raiders in the game. Syncere also has 33 steals to go along with her points, and ball handling ability as one of top ball handlers. This takes some pressure off Sophomore phenom Addie Huber who at times has been double teamed or faced guarded. Syncere has 55 rebounds this season, and for her stature that is quite impressive. Sometimes we do need to remind Syncere, who most times is one of the smallest on the court, to settle for a jump shot instead of her wanting to take on the "trees" on a drive. Where Syncere lacks in size she makes up with her toughness, and big heart.

With 11 points per game average and a 33% three-point average, TYSON LEACH, Class of '24, perfectly embodies the mental and physical toughness it takes to play varsity basketball at Middletown. As team captain, Leach had 28 steals, averaged four rebounds per game and shot a 67% at the foul line. Leach has shown steady leadership in the heart of the season through ups and downs. He has helped to guide the team to a 12-10 record after beginning the season with a roster devoid of varsity experience.

MASON BLAZER, Class of ’24, helped lead his team to a 6-2 record in the final 8 games of 2022. Blazer averaged 19.4 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, 11 three-point field goals, and a 52% field goal average (57/108). He also clinched a victory on December 16, 2022 against Camp Hill with a shot at the buzzer that cleared the bench. You can view that exciting moment HERE.

JAYLA KOSER, Class of '26, is only a freshman and is leading the 2022-23 girls' basketball team in scoring, rebounds, and steals. Jayla can play inside and score with her great moves to get her defenders moving every which way, or she can pull up for a three. Jayla's versatility makes it very difficult for opposing coaches to choose a player to match up against her. With this being only her freshman season, the Division will be seeing a lot of her for the next four years. Jayla also keeps her teammates entertained as she once famously asked, "Is the Hershey Tournament home?"

TRAVIS KRAMER, Class of ’23, is a 3-year Cross Country participant. He was selected as a team captain this season as a result of his tremendous work ethic, leadership skills and coachability. Travis has been an invaluable mentor for the younger runners on the team. He was the team’s top male runner all season, improving his initial race time of 22:58 to his season Personal Record of 18:55. His hard work and dedication earned him a spot as the 10th individual male qualifier for the District III championship run on October 29, 2022 in Newville. Congratulations to Travis!

LENA EMIGH, Class of ’23, was forced into playing #1 after playing doubles last year. She has stepped up her game going 10-8 and has been competitive in all of her matches. In addition, Lena finished second in the #1 singles taking the silver medal and qualified for district singles. She also qualified for District doubles with Katie Yoder taking the silver medal finishing second. Lena is a good captain/leader on the court and in the classroom as well. She has a great never give up attitude that has helped her with her success this year. I will miss her never give up attitude next year.

~ Coach Lynn Miller ~

KATIE YODER, Class of ’23, has stepped up to the challenge of playing #2 singles. Her confidence and competitiveness have transferred into a 10-7 record. Katie qualified for District doubles with Lena Emigh and captured the silver medal finishing second. She is a good leader/captain on the court and in the classroom. Katie has been a good role model for the younger players and has helped them improve their game. I will miss her confidence next year.

Will Fulmer and Addison Huber

WILL FULMER, Class of '23, was the statistical leader of the golf team. Will is humble, exhibits GREAT character, and is a silent leader. He was voted as one of the captains by his teammates and did the LITTLE THINGS to make our team a winner. He was the main reason we had a successful season with a 35 and 7 record! He also advanced to the District 3 Championship which makes him the first player in about ten years to accomplish that feat.

~ Coach Charlie Bowen ~

ADDISON HUBER, Class of '25, is my most versatile player transitioning roles from Outside Hitter to Setter. With a couple games left in our regular season, she has racked up 215 assists, 127 digs, 58 kills, and 42 aces with 2.13 passing rating. As a Sophomore, Addison works extremely hard both offensively and defensively and has been a major contributor in our success and ability to make post-season.
