Rich Reed, Athletic Director

Middletown Area School District welcomes Mr. Richard K. Reed as the District’s new Athletic Director. Reed bleeds blue and gold as a 1995 graduate of Middletown Area High School. As a Blue Raider, Reed played basketball and baseball and ran cross country. Reed continued his education at Penn State as a biology major and received his dual teaching certification in biology and physical education at Millersville University. He began his teaching career at Franklin High School in Baltimore County where he later transitioned to Athletic Director. In 2013, Reed was awarded the Maryland State Athletic Director Association’s Athletic Director of the Year for District VI.

Reed has come full circle as he returns to MASD; although, the gymnasium he played basketball in no longer exists. He now gets to work alongside faces from his past like his former cross country coach, Scott Pettis, and former schoolmate and neighbor, Brett Myers, who is a few years his senior. Reed enjoys Philly sports as a fan of the Eagles and Sixers. He is also a huge fan of his nine year old son’s basketball and lacrosse teams.

Reed has jumped into his position with vigor and is busy learning the ropes and getting to know his coaches. He is enjoying reconnecting with alumni and Middletown legends as he crosses paths with them at athletic events. Be sure to greet Mr. Reed and welcome him back to Middletown when you see him at a game!
