Four teachers reading

During the 2018-2019 school year, two MAHS English teachers, Dr. Elizabeth Gannon-Rittenhouse and Ms. Katelyn Murk, launched a young adult book club for MAHS faculty. Although their goal was to improve their repertoire and knowledge of young adult literature, Gannon-Rittenhouse and Murk were pleasantly surprised when they had interest from faculty across subject areas and departments. Not only do the teachers get to read books that they can share with their students, but the books also spark great conversation about a variety of real-life issues that high school students face.

Dr. Gannon-Rittenhouse submitted an article about the MAHS book club to the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). NCTE published Dr. Gannon-Rittenhouse’s article on their blog as part of their “Build Your Stack” series. “Build Your Stack” is a resource for English teachers which features reviews of young adult literature. Head on over to the BLOG to read Dr. Gannon-Rittenhouse’s article and you may even find some books that will appeal to your teen!
