Instructional Selections

Due to COVID-19, parents have the opportunity to select from a variety of instructional models that best suits their family's and children's needs for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents may opt to change to a different model during the school year.
If you need to discuss your child's instructional model, please contact your building principal.

ELEMENTARY OPTIONS (grades K-5)

Full Return to Brick-and-Mortar
Student will attend school in-person 5 days per week.

Scaffolded Model
A combination of in-person and remote learning

Raider Academy
(MASD's full-time asynchronous online learning program via Capital Area Online Learning Association)

Raider Academy uses a pre-packaged elementary curriculum through Accelerate Education for students in Grades K through 5. Students work 100% online from home at their own pace. Students are expected to log on each day that MASD schools are in session and complete a minimum of one lesson in each course per day; however, students are not on a set schedule and have flexibility to do their work at any time during the day or evening.

Full Remote Learning Model
(MASD curriculum and teachers livestreaming instruction)
MASD acknowledges that many parents are not comfortable sending their child back to school while COVID-19 exists; however, they prefer that their child have access to livestreamed lessons delivered by MASD teachers using MASD curriculum with the ability to interact online with their teacher and actively participate with classmates as opposed to Raider Academy. Students will be expected to follow the regular elementary school day schedule and be online daily for direct instruction. This model will utilize a combination of both synchronous and asynchronous instruction. Synchronous means the student is following the teachers online as they teach "live" from their classroom. The teacher will also assign asynchronous activities for the student to work on independently or in small groups as part of daily classes. This is the model that the District will utilize in the event that schools would have to close for any length of time due to COVID-19.

  SECONDARY OPTIONS (grades 6-12)

Hybrid (Blended) Model
Student attends school in person two days per week and learns from home remotely three days per week. Students whose last names begin with letters A - L will be assigned to Cohort A and attend school on Mondays and Thursdays. Students whose last names begin with letters M - Z will be assigned to Cohort B and attend school on Tuesdays and Fridays. Both cohorts will be remote on Wednesdays. On the days a student's cohort is at home for remote learning, they are expected to follow their MAMS or High School schedule and fully participate online as instruction is livestreamed. Students will also be given assignments to complete asynchronously throughout the day as teachers work with small groups. Attendance will be taken at the start of EACH class period for both in-person and remote learning days. **Exceptions to assigned cohorts are at the discretion of the administration and will only be granted if the change does not significantly impact class sizes.**
NOTE: Secondary students who have an IEP, GIEP, 504 Plan or are an English Language Learner have the option to attend MAMS or MAHS with both cohorts (four days per week total in person).

Raider Academy
(MASD's full-time asynchronous online learning program via Capital Area Online Learning Association)
Raider Academy uses a pre-packaged middle and high school curriculum through Accelerate Education for new RA students in Grades 6-12. Previous RA students may also continue with Edison courses since they are used to that platform. RA students work 100% online from home at their own pace. Students are expected to log on each day that MASD schools are in session and complete a minimum of one lesson in each course per day; however, students are not on a set schedule and have flexibility to do their work at any time during the day or evening within a 24-hour period.
