2020 Honors Night 2020 Senior Athletes

A virus may have brought the world to a halt but that didn’t stop MASD from finding ways to celebrate the Class of 2020. Although the final few months of their senior year didn't go as planned, the Class of 2020 embraced the changes that MASD implemented for them. Early on, With Kidz in Mind created yard signs for seniors so their homes were identifiable. Then War Memorial Field was lit up on Friday nights to recognize our senior athletes and pay tribute to first responders. Honors Night was presented via video and over $79,500 in scholarships was awarded. As the end of the school year approached, seniors were given the opportunity to walk across stage in their caps, gowns and masks as their parents watched, cheered and snapped close-up photos, all of which has never been an option at previous commencements held at The Forum. A video of the virtual commencement complete with recorded speeches of all of the scheduled speakers and photos of each graduate was created by high school staff. New yard signs with students' photos and names lined the high school campus and cap-and-gown photos began popping up on social media. Masked seniors, groups of athletes, photos with their yard signs, photos on stage with MAHS principal, Mr. Michael Carnes, cap tossing, and even photos at the Capitol were just some of the creative ways families captured this unique graduation year. Parents of seniors created a Facebook page called “Memories of Raiders 2020” for families to post their photos. The Press & Journal created an online opportunity for parents to submit photos of their seniors and also did an article containing reactions of our seniors to this most unique end to their MASD journey. Their appreciation for the revised senior plans was overwhelming. The senior events culminated on June 3 when the graduates and their families drove through the MAHS parking lot in their decorated vehicles to receive their diplomas and participate in a parade throughout the District escorted by local first responders. The community support for the parade was overwhelming and the seniors had a tremendous send-off as they drove off into the sunset. Literally.

Middletown Area School District wishes to thank the many organizations and individuals
who offered their services to help make the end of the school year memorable for our seniors.
