Congratulations to the following seniors who were selected by their teachers as the 2019-2020 Students of the Month.

Isabella Stillo and Raymond Truntz

Isabella Stillo
Isabella M. Stillo

Isabella Stillo is the daughter of Nick & Dani Stillo. Isabella a Mini-THON leader, the volleyball team manager, and Link Crew leader. Isabella achieved honor roll throughout her entire high school career. She also babysits at her church every Thursday. Isabella plans on going to college to double major in occupational therapy and Spanish. She also wishes to study abroad.

 “I am beyond honored to receive this award! I really did not think I would be one of the select senior girls chosen. This is 100% not a popularity contest. Thank you to all my teachers that nominated me and
thank you to the administration for selecting me.

Raymond Truntz
Raymond F. Truntz

Raymond Truntz is the son of Todd & Liz Truntz. Raymond is involved in school activities such as National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, band, and baseball. He is a three-time FBLA State Qualifier. Raymond plans on studying environmental science at a four-year college to become a wildlife biologist.

Courtney Shaffer and Connor Leiby

Courtney C. Shaffer

Courtney Shaffer is the daughter of Thomas & Christine Shaffer. Courtney has earned honor roll all throughout her high school career. Courtney is a three-time Mid Penn Champion for volleyball as well as a two-time Mid Penn qualifier for track & field and an honorary member of the Army Field Band. She is involved in many school activities such as volleyball, track & field, marching and concert band, epidemiology, National Honor Society, Mini-Thon, Tri-M Honors Society, Pit for the musical, Link Crew, and Senior Internship. Courtney is a class officer and an LCBC Harrisburg Youth Group Leader. She plans on going to LVC for their 3-3 program to study exercise science and then physical therapy.

Connor Leiby Connor C. Leiby

Connor Leiby is the son of Gregg & Amy Foltz. He is involved in marching band, concert band, jazz band, Tri-M Honors Society, National Honors Society, fall play stage crew, and the spring musical pit orchestra. He volunteered at Hershey Medical Center over the summer. Connor is in many other bands such as District Band, County Band, Region Band, District Jazz Band, and State Jazz Band. Connor was selected for the first chair alto saxophone for the All-State Jazz Band. Connor is planning on attending Penn State University Park School of Engineering to major in computer science engineering and minor in music performance.

January Students of the Month

Nicole Altland
Nicole R. Altland

Nicole R. Altland is the daughter of Dale & Lorraine Altland. Nicole has earned honor roll all throughout her high school career along with an Academic Achievement Award. She is the secretary of both band and National Honor Society as well as the vice president of Tri-M Music Honor Society. Nicole is very involved in many MAHS activities such as marching band, concert band, jazz band, concert choir, select choir, Student Council, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Link Crew, Mini-Thon, Senior Internship, volleyball, softball, fall play and spring musicals. She also participates in community activities such as volunteering for set-up for Seven Sorrows Community Festival and performing with music clubs at various community venues. Nicole participates in County band, County chorus, District band, and Honors band. After high school Nicole plans on attending Penn State University Park main campus to major in digital art and media design.

“I am honored to be chosen for the January Student of the Month. I would like to thank my teachers, friends, and family for their never-ending support throughout my many memorable years here at Middletown.”

Jacob Buffington
Jacob C. Buffington

Jacob C. Buffington is the son of Scott Buffington and Jennifer Yospa. Jacob has earned honor roll throughout his high school career. He was a district qualifier for Cross Country. Jacob is involved in school activities such as marching band, concert band, jazz band, pit for spring musical, stage crew for fall play, National Honors Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Link Crew, cross country, wrestling and track and field. Jacob plans to attend Penn State University Park to study Astrophysics.

“I am truly thankful for being selected as the Student of the Month for January. I owe it to my family, my friends, and my teachers for helping me hold myself to high standards. This achievement will not only show the hardwork I have put into my education but will also drive me to continue to be the best student I can be.”

Appleby and Malay

Macy Appleby
Macy T. Appleby

Macy T. Appleby is the daughter of Bobby & Heidi Appleby. Macy has been involved in National Honor Society, Link Crew, Mini-Thon, and the soccer team as a player and team manager. Macy helps pack RaiderPacks after school for families. She has accomplished Distinguished Honor Roll and Honor Roll throughout her whole high school career. Over the summer Macy was a hostess at Capitol City Diner. Macy plans to attend Duquesne University’s six year school of Pharmacy to obtain her Pharm.D. to become a pharmacist.

"I am very grateful to be chosen by my teachers as Student of the Month for December. This honor motivates me to continue doing my best in everything that I do. I am very thankful for all the MAHS teachers and staff who helped me become the student that I am today."

Zach Malay
Zachary T. Malay

Zachary T. Malay is the son of Sean & Maritess Villarrial. Zach is involved in National Honors Society, Tri-M Music Honors Society, Link Crew, Mini-Thon, concert band, marching band, percussion ensemble, steel drum band, cross country, wrestling, track and field, and tech crew for the MAHS plays and musicals. He is also an assistant for elementary wrestling. Zach is a 4-time cross country district qualifier and a wrestling district and regional qualifier. He is a previous employee of both Dairy Queen and Sharp Shopper. Zach has been accepted for the Chemical Engineering 2 + 2 Program at Penn State Harrisburg then plans to attend Penn State Main Campus.

“I feel honored that I was chosen for being Student of the Month for the month of December. My family, friends, and teachers motivated me to become the person I am today. (p.s. Best Christmas gift ever!)”.

Cayla M. Garman is the daughter of Bruce and Julie Garman. Cayla has earned distinguished honor roll throughout her whole high school career. She is involved in many activities such as chorus, select choir, link crew, color guard, winter guard, the fall play 2019, and DCMEA County Chorus. Cayla was elected as a choir representative her senior year and is a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society. After high school Cayla plans on attending Penn State Harrisburg to study Horticulture.

“I am grateful to have been selected by my teachers and staff to receive this recognition. It’s really nice to go to a school where hard work is noticed and validated. I would definitely like to thank my family, friends, teachers, and everyone else who helped and supported me through the years”.

Dane Ebersole
Dane A. Ebersole

Dane A. Ebersole is the son of Dennis and Amy Ebersole. Dane is band president as well as class treasurer. He is also involved in school activities such as chorus, FBLA, Mini-Thon, Link Crew, National Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honors Society. Dane has led 5th-8th graders at LCBC Harrisburg in growing their faith and assists in coaching U-10 Soccer team at Olmsted. Dane was selected by his classmates to be on the Homecoming Court. He was an employee at the Middletown Swim Club for two years as a life guard. Dane plans to attend Lebanon Valley College to study physical therapy.

Angie Torres & Joey Spear

Angie Torres
Angelina R. Torres

Angelina R. Torres is the daughter of Robert and Michele Torres. Angie has earned Distinguished Honor Roll all throughout her school career, was a 2019 Rotary Youth Leadership Award conferee, and earned an AP Scholar with Honors Award. Angie is a member of Link Crew, Girls Tennis, and MAHS Performing Arts. Angie has been an active member and leader in the MAHS Youth & Government Club where she has earned multiple awards. Her plans after high school are to attend a four-year college to major in political science and possibly pursue a law degree. 

"I am incredibly honored to be selected as one of the Students of the Month for October. I would not be the student I am without the unwavering support of my family, my friends, and my teachers. Success would not be attainable if I did not have a strong foundation of advocates and mentors to guide and uplift me. Thank you to everyone who made this achievement possible!"

Joey Spear
Joseph T. Spear

Joseph T. Spear is the son of Mitch and Debbie Spear. Joey is the Senior Class Historian as well as a member of the National Honor Society, Mini-Thon Committee, and Link Crew. Joey has earned Honor Roll each quarter during his high school career. Joey is a member of the soccer and wrestling teams and has earned the following athletic awards to date: second team All Star for soccer; first team All Star for wrestling; Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Award; All-Academic First Team 2019; district qualifier for wrestling; regional qualifier for wrestling. Joey was selected by his peers for the 2019 Homecoming Court. Outside of school, Joey assists with the Raider Wrestling Club Youth Program and works at Giant Food Stores. Joey is a Seven Sorrows Church Altar Server and also a volunteer at the Seven Sorrows Festival and Fish Fry. Joey intends to major in mechanical engineering at Penn State.
