The Perfect Formula for Learning Math
Laughter, music, stories, stretching. Not exactly what comes to mind when you think about number recognition, value, sequence, or circumference, but this is what MASD elementary students experienced as part of Arithmetickles, a curriculum-based interactive math show that uses student participation and comedy to make math jump off the page and onto the stage and change how kids think of math.
Parents also got in on the fun and excitement of math at the Arithmetickles family night event. Parents and students joined forces on stage to solve (non-threatening) math puzzles and play math-related games.
Thanks to Mrs. Lori Miller, MASD Math Coach, for organizing the event. Last school year Mrs. Miller transitioned from her elementary teaching position at Reid to the Math Coach position, and in her role, works alongside classroom teachers to provide an increased focus on math instruction and improve practices in math classes for students in grades K-8.
Improving math aptitude and promoting a positive outlook and attitude toward the subject is a top priority of MASD. We want students to master basic math principles and develop them into confident and enthusiastic math students while experiencing fun, intrigue, and excitement as they explore the world of math.
