Bowlers Place in the Top 20 at the National High School Bowling Championship
Middletown Bowlers wrapped up their epic season with a top 20 national finish and placing three individuals in the top 100 of the country’s best high school bowlers. The team was led by coaches Daryl Bower and Vinny Cippolla.
Landen Freeman, Joey Jorich, Camaron Smee, Brenden Wegert, and Carter Zeiters all represented Middletown in the recent U.S. High School Bowling National Championship, held in Lancaster.
The Raiders placed 16th among high school teams from across the country. The team's second place finish in March at the PA State High School Bowling Championship made them eligible for nationals.
In singles competition, Brenden competed against 388 boys to qualify 96th, next to teammate Camaron, in the 97th spot. Landen found himself in the 27th spot after an amazing showing of consistent scoring. Rookie bowler and first-time national competitor Carter found himself right on the cusp of the 150 bowler cut, missing by just a couple pins.
Advancing on in play, Camaron finished at the 65th spot, and Landen ended in 51st. Play ended for both, as only the top 40 advanced into Round 2.
Brenden qualified for Round 2, qualifying 36th out of 40. He threw a 192 in Game 1, sadly ending his day at nationals, but with an official standing of 35th in the country.
